- Zebra Haworthia Plant
- Pot Size: Width - 7 cm , Height- 6cm
The Zebra Haworthia, scientifically known as Haworthiopsis attenuata (formerly Haworthia attenuata), is a popular and distinctive succulent. Here are its key features:
- Striking Striped Foliage: This is its most defining characteristic. Its dark green leaves are covered with prominent, raised white or silvery-white tubercles (wart-like bumps) arranged in horizontal bands or stripes, giving it a resemblance to a zebra's pattern. These stripes are typically more pronounced on the outer surface of the leaves.
- Rosette Growth Habit: The leaves grow in a compact, stemless rosette formation. The rosettes are relatively small, typically growing up to 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) in diameter.
- Pointed, Fleshy Leaves: The leaves are thick, succulent, triangular-lanceolate in shape, and taper to a sharp point. They are firm and rigid, designed for efficient water storage.
- Clumping Nature: Zebra Haworthia readily produces offsets or "pups" around the base of the main plant. Over time, these offsets can form dense clumps, making the plant look fuller and providing easy opportunities for propagation.
- Small, Tubular Flowers: It produces delicate, small, tubular, greenish-white flowers on a tall, slender stalk (inflorescence) that can rise significantly above the foliage (up to 12-16 inches or 30-40 cm). While the flowers are not the primary ornamental feature, they typically appear in spring or summer.
- Compact Size: Its relatively small and contained growth habit makes it an excellent choice for windowsills, desks, terrariums, and other small indoor spaces.
- Low Maintenance and Hardy: It is widely considered one of the easiest succulents to care for, making it very popular among beginners. It tolerates a range of indoor conditions and is quite forgiving of neglect.
- Drought Tolerant: As a succulent, it is highly adapted to dry conditions and stores water efficiently in its leaves. This makes it very drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering.
In essence, its unique striped appearance, manageable size, and ease of care are its most appealing and defining features.
